Up to eight students a year are accepted into the program, which begins in late August or early September. Auditions will be held in January and February through private appointments and through some national group auditions such as U/RTA.
It should be noted that an ASF representative might not be present at all U/RTA finals. It is suggested, therefore, that serious candidates schedule a private, twenty-minute audition. To schedule a private audition, send a completed application form, a non-refundable $35.00 application fee, and a current photo and resume to Ray Chambers, Program Director. It is important that you meet the deadline date that appears on the application. After receiving your materials, a representative of ASF will contact you to make an appointment for an audition/interview. Please prepare two contrasting audition pieces—one classical monologue and one contemporary monologue—totaling no more than four minutes. Actors should also be prepared to take direction, make adjustments, perform additional material, sing sixteen bars of a song (a cappella) or, if asked, perform cold readings or improvise. The interview should be a dialogue—a time to ask questions as well as answer questions. Please refer to the separate application form for specific audition dates and locations. For any information not covered on this site please contact Ray Chambers by e-mail or (334) 271-5350.
